Photo of stream tableThe Kootenai River Network has a Rolling Rivers Trailer for teaching stream dynamics and the effects of different kinds of land use on streams.  Our demonstrations are available to schools and organizations throughout the Kootenay-Kootenai River Basin.

KRN Stream Trailer

The KRN Stream Trailer comes loaded with sand and a self-contained tank for pumping and re-circulating water.

We demonstrate erosion by carving different kinds of stream channels in the sand to see the effects of different flow conditions and the effects of different kinds of land use.

Our demonstrations include the following concepts:

River Energy - Track water speed in different stream conditions.

Riparian Areas - Learn the effect of stream bank vegetation.

Culverts - Look at the effect of culverts on stream dynamics.

Storm Sewers - See the impact of storm runoff.

Bank stability - Learn the effect of stream bank vegetation.

Wetland Traps - See how wetlands trap fine sediment from runoff.

Stream Restoration - Learn how to bring back normal stream functioning.

There is no cost for booking a demonstration, but we do appreciate honorariums to help defray costs
